Please remember to review the advising hints for the various majors when advising education students.
Also, be aware that there are Psychology Courses such as Child Development that are required of many licensing areas. Child Development is being offered this year on Tuesday and Thursday at 1-2:15 with Professor White
Learning about Learning
Math 103 Geometry and Measurement
This course is required for all students with a concentration in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Take it this semester if possible.
ED 333 Special Education, Assessment, and the Inclusionary Classroom
This is a required course for all education concentrations!
ED 212 Picture Books, Literature for Young Children
This is a required course for all Elementary and Early Childhood Education concentrations. The course is highly recommended for students in the Visual Arts Education concentration and for the English Education Concentration. Students from many different majors have taken this course and found it to be helpful, informative, enlightening and fun!
LS 490 Contemporary Issues in Social Responsibility
Students will integrate their academic and practical experience by examining critical issues in contemporary life. Any student who is currently completing the Liberal Studies Major needs to take this course. This course is also open to all other students on campus interested in exploring contemporary issues.
ED 350 Child Care Administration
Students who are interested in the administrative duties in day care and pre-school
settings should take this course. Please see Lynn Love, the instructor and Director of Pine Manor’s Child Study Center, or Dr. McElroy if you have questions about the prerequisites.
ED 395 Practicum in Child Care/Early Education and Care
This course is for students who would like to pursue an Early Education and Care license. Students will participate in a 150 hour practicum. Please contact Dr. McElroy if you are interested in this course.
ED 492 Internship for Non-Licensure Students
This course is for students who have chosen not to, or are not able to, pursue a State Teachers license at this time. Please see Dr. McElroy to discuss your placement. The course includes a seminar that meets once a week.
