College Composition Advising Hints Spring 2008

For students currently enrolled in CC110

Preliminary recommendations for placement will be made for students currently enrolled in CC110 by mid-term and distributed to First Year Advisors by Nov 6th.  These recommendations should be used for establishing placement into CC111, CC112, CCH112 or for exemption. However, a student’s final portfolio at the completion of the semester can be used to reassess placement if there is any question or change in her status.

For students making unsatisfactory progress in CC110

Students recommended for CC112 should successfully complete CC110 to prepare for the more challenging work in CC112. These students can retake CC110 if they have not passed the course due to absence or lack of work.

Students recommended for CC111 should be advised to move into CC111.

In either scenario, the student will receive the instruction needed to complete the college composition sequence required for graduation.

For students recommended for CCH112

These placements are made by recommendation and submission of a writing portfolio to the College Composition Director.

For students currently enrolled in CC101 or CC102

Upon successful completion of CC101 or by portfolio review, students will move into CC112.

Students currently enrolled in CC102, or CC112, must successfully complete the course, or exempt by portfolio review, to fulfill their graduation requirements.

For transfer students

Transfer students who have not had college-level writing should be placed into CC110.

Transfer students who have college writing credit should submit a writing portfolio to the College Composition Director. Placement into the appropriate section will be determined by the composition staff based on the portfolio.
