Johnson & Wales Softball Swept By Pine Manor

The Johnson & Wales University softball team dropped Great Northeast Athletic Conference double header against Pine Manor at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon Pine Manor took the first game by a score of 6-0 and completed the sweep with a 10-4 victory in the second game.Pine Manor jumped out to an early 1-0 run in the top of the third on a solo home run by freshman Courtney Wallace (Steep Falls, Maine). The Gators added to their lead in the top of the sixth on a two run double by freshman Monica Blondeau (Wallingford, Conn.) and added three unearned runs in the top of the seventh en route to the 6-0 victory. Sophomore Nicole Vocaturo (Bellmore, N.Y.) picked up the win for Pine Manor, pitching a complete game four hit shutout.
In the nightcap, Pine Manor tallied two in the first and four more in the second en route to an early 8-0 lead after the top of the fourth. Johnson & Wales scored one in the fourth and another in the sixth before a two run triple by junior Kerry Cotter (Nashua, N.H.) cut the lead to 10-4. That would be as close as the Wildcats would get, however as Pine Manor held on for the 10-4 victory.
With the losses Johnson & Wales falls to 3-12 overall, 0-6 in the GNAC while improves to 10-5, 2-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Sunday, April 1st when they travel to Rivier for a GNAC double header, starting at 12:00 p.m.
