Softball Preview 2006
Chestnut Hill, MA- 3/3/2006 The Pine Manor softball team enters the 2005-2006 with high expectations, and a conference championship on their minds. After starting off slow the 2004-2005 team finished 18-6 in the conference and advanced to the conference semifinals, losing 6-7 to Suffolk University. The talented senior trio of Pam Pelletier (Beverly, MA), Amy Jordan (Taunton, MA) and Ashley Woodward (Cherryfield, ME) have one last season to achieve their dream of a GNAC title and a spot in the NCAA tournament. Some solid returnees and a strong recruiting class will go a long way in helping the Pine Manor softball team this spring.
Arguably the best pitcher is the conference Ashley Woodward will lead the Gator pitching staff, and be a dangerous hitter in the middle of the lineup. A first team all conference selection last spring, Woodward has her sights set on the NCAA tournament. Joining Woodward in the circle this spring are two talented freshman. Nicole Vocaturo (Bellmore, NY) and Megan Richmond (Milton, Ontario) help give Pine Manor one of their strongest pitching rotations in years. Pam Pelletier gives the pitching staff a solid catcher to throw to and a tremendous leader.
While not on the mound Woodward and Vocaturo will play first base. Sophomore Denise Lazzara (Tewksbury, MA) returns after a fine freshman season and will be the starting second baseman when the team heads to Florida. Highly recruited junior Angelica Camacho (Orlando, FL) will play shortstop and lead off for the Gators. Freshman Abby Lavgine (Franklin, NH) will split time at first and second. Richmond and Vocaturo will handle third base duties when they are not in the circle.
Amy Jordan will play centerfield and be the leader of the PMC outfield. Jordan will be joined by a pair of talented freshman. Ashlee Dennis (Providence, RI) has great speed and an excellent arm. Fellow freshman Rachel Mastine (Manlius, NY) has terrific range. Battling for time in the crowded outfield is sophomore Kelsey Marston (Chester, VT), Latoya Thompson (Providence, RI), Maria Gomes (Dorchester, MA), Leigh Barker (Needham, MA) and Natasha Lawrence-Harrison (Dorchester, MA).
