Pine Manor wins three straight games to stay alive in     GNAC softball tournament

Springfield,, MA 4/29/06- Fourth-seeded Pine Manor stayed alive by winning three games over Albertus Magnus (8-0 in five innings), Simmons (3-0), and Emerson (5-0).

In the first game of the day for the Gators senior Ashley Woodward and freshman Nicole Vocaturo combined for the five inning shut out of Albertus Magnus.  Woodward pitched the first four innings striking out 11 and giving up only 2 hits.  Vocaturo pitched the fifth inning, striking one and did not give up a hit.  Offensively Pine Manor was led by senior catcher Pam Pelletier who went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. 

The second game of the day pitted the Gators against the Sharks of Simmons College.  Ashley Woodward took the mound again for Pine Manor and for the second straight game did not allow a run.  Woodward gave up only 2 hits, and struck out 13 Sharks.   Offensively the Gators were led by Megan Richmond, Amanda Dennis and Angelica Camacho.  Richmond went one for two, including a RBI triple and a run scored.  Dennis doubled and drove in one while Camacho scored a run and stole a base for PMC.

In the third game of the day Pine Manor took on second seeded Emerson who had swept the Gators in there regular season meeting.  Ashley Woodward would continue her heroics taking the mound for the third straight game of the day and again shutting out the opponent.  Woodward gave up only three hits, walked one and struck out eleven Lions.  The Gator offense struck early and often to support Woodward.  Pine Manor scored a run in the first and the second inning, and then added a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.  Freshman Nicole Vocaturo blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning and finished one for two with two runs scored and one RBI.  Amanda Dennis went two for three including a double, one run scored and an RBI.

With the three wins Pine Manor advances to the conference semi-finals and will face defending champion Western New England at 9 AM on Sunday morning.
