Pine Manor College Athletics Announces Award Winners at Annual Banquet
The Pine Manor College Athletics Department honored the 2005-2006 athletic year by recognizing several individuals athletes for their excellent seasons.
The Henry K. White Award is Pine Manor’s longest running athletic award and is given annually to a senior who has achieved the most during her athletic career at Pine Manor. Ashley Woodward is the 2006 recipient of this prestigious award. In her time at Pine Manor, Woodward has broken 4 school records for pitching and was named the 2005 Pine Manor Athlete of the Year.
The White Letter Award is an award that was given in the past and was returned to the banquet this year. The White Letter is awarded to an upper-class student athlete that best exemplifies the attributes that make Pine Manor College and PMC Athletics special, including: inclusivity, cooperation, care for the common good and relationship based learning. The 2006 White Letter Award recipient was Natalie Ghazi. Natalie was a two year starter for the basketball team; in addition Natalie is an RA on campus.
The Peter G. Ellis award is presented to a first year that best combines the essential elements for being a highly successful student athlete, including outstanding athleticism, spirit, dedication, and academic excellence. Natalie Russell was named the 2006 winner of the Peter G. Ellis award. Russell played on the Pine Manor soccer and basketball teams. In addition Natalie is a member of SAAC and the honors council.
The Gator Pride award is given to the student-athlete that exhibits the most pride in being a Pine Manor Gator, regardless of skill level. The 2006 Gator Pride award was presented to Latoya Thompson. Latoya is a freshman from Providence, RI, who played on both the volleyball and softball teams. Latoya is also an advisory board member of the SAAC.
Katie Fowkes a junior at Pine Manor was awarded with the Henry Baker Appreciation Award and the Gator Award. The Henry Baker award is given to a non-student athlete that best supports Pine Manor athletics. The Gator Award is the only award given out by the student athletes. It is given to the person whom the captains feel best supports the Pine Manor College student athletes.
The final award given was the Athlete of the Year. Freshman Amanda Dennis was named the 2006 Pine Manor Athlete of the Year. Amanda was a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams for Pine Manor. Dennis led the volleyball team in kills and blocks, she was the leading scored and rebounder on the basketball team and is a starting outfielder for the softball team.
Individual team awards were presented to Lindsay Cook- Basketball, Amy Jordan- Softball, Erin Oliver-Soccer, Natalie Hunt- Lacrosse, Jessica Panemeno- Cross Country, Kelsey Marston- Tennis, Shiho Minoshima-Volleyball
