Pine Manor College Athletics Announces Award Winners at 2007 Banquet

            The Pine Manor College Athletics Department honored the 2006-2007 athletic year by recognizing several individuals athletes for their excellent seasons. 

            The scholar athlete award is given annually to the student athlete with the highest grade point average.  This year there were three outstanding student athletes awarded.  Junior Patty Pabon, and sophomores Abby Lavigne and Jessica Panameno were the 2007 recipients.  . The team with the highest cumulative GPA was awarded to the 2006-2007 tennis team. 

            The Henry K. White Award is Pine Manor’s longest running athletic award and is given annually to a senior who has achieved the most during her athletic career at Pine Manor.  Angelica Camacho is the 2007 recipient of this prestigious award.  Angelica transferred from Seminole Community College in Orlando Florida, the moment she stepped on campus last fall she made an immediate impact.  She was a two year starter on both the basketball and softball teams.  She was a leading scorer both seasons for the Gator basketball team and in her first season with the softball team broke the single season stolen base record.  

           The Peter G. Ellis award is presented to a first year that best combines the essential elements for being a highly successful student athlete, including outstanding athleticism, spirit, dedication, and academic excellence.  Ally Austin was named the 2007 winner of the Peter G. Ellis award.  Austin played on the Pine Manor volleyball and was named third team All GNAC.  In addition Ally is a an active member of SAAC and maintains an impressive GPA.   

    The White Letter is awarded to an upper-class student athlete that best exemplifies the attributes that make Pine Manor College and PMC Athletics special, including: inclusivity, cooperation, care for the common good and relationship based learning.  There were three sophomores who were recipients of this year's award.  Angeline Capre is a three sport athlete for the Gators.  A starter on the soccer team, she was a valuable contributor off the bench for the basketball and softball teams.  Bethany Kapell, is a two year starter for the Pine Manor Soccer team.  She dealt with adversity and injury all season long for the Gators and will be looked towards to help the improving soccer team.  Essence Denton is the starting goalie for the Gators lacrosse team.  Essence was a member of the inaugural lacrosse team last spring.  She worked all summer long on her skills and her improvement and dedication to the sport was evident this spring. 

            The Gator Pride award is given to the student-athlete that exhibits the most pride in being a Pine Manor Gator, regardless of skill level.  The 2007 Gator Pride award was presented to Michelle Myers.  Michelle is a freshman from Freeport, NY, who was the starting second baseman on  the softball team.  Michelle is an active supporter of all of the PMC athletic teams.

            Dotty McDermott was awarded with the Henry Baker Appreciation Award .  The Henry Baker award is given to a non-student athlete that best supports Pine Manor athletics.  The Gator Award is the only award given out by the student athletes.  It is given to the person whom the captains feel best supports the Pine Manor College student athletes.  This award was presented to Jennifer Reed.

            The final award given was the Athlete of the Year.  Senior  Angelica Camacho was named the 2007 Pine Manor Athlete of the Year.  As mentioned earlier Angelica was a starter for both the basketball and softball teams at Pine Manor.
