Lacrosse fall to SUNY Maritime in Season Opener

THROGGS NECK, NY - The Pine Manor women's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the 2008 season, with an 18-5 lose to SUNY Maritime. The Privateers improved their record to 1-4 on the season, while the Gators fall to 0-1.

Maritime scored 12 times in the first half, including the first 9 goals. Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) scored the first two goals, as well as the 5th. Alicia Pauls (Lafeyette, NY/Lafeyette) scored all 4 of her goals in the first as well. For the Gators, Stephanie Ludwig (Henniker, NH) scored three times in the first, which proved to be all the Gators would score before the half.

The second half began with Jami Lyn-Butto (Lakeworth, FL/Pope John Paul II) scoring her second goal of the evening, and then Murray scoring her 4th and final goal. Pine Manor cut the lead to 10 on a goal by Liz Castle (Milford, MA), however Maggie Klimkowski (Wantagh, NY/Kelenberg Memorial) scored for the second time to bring the lead back to 11. Ludwig would score again before Elizabeth Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth), Kyle Kenny (West Nyack, NY/Nanuet), and Stephanie Cavaliere (Long Island City, NY/Archbishop Molloy) would close out the game with a goal apiece.

In net, Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) made 6 saves and picked up 4 ground balls. The Privateers will return to action again on Wednesday at 1:30 when they host Wells College.  Pine Manor will host Emerson College Friday at 4:00 PM.
