Women's Basketball 1/15/08

CHESTNUT HILL, MA--  Senior Katie Castignetti (Braintree, Mass.) and juniors Kerry Bowman (Guilford, Conn.) and Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) each scored 13 points as Suffolk defeated Pine Manor 77-49 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

The visiting Rams (6-4, 2-0 Great Northeast) used an 11-4 run over the final 3:29 of the first half to take a 38-28 advantage at the break, and Suffolk extended that margin to 14 points (42-28) before the host Gators (3-8, 0-2 Great Northeast) went on a 16-4 run over a 7:21 stretch to close to within four (48-44) on a three-pointer by junior Angeline Capre (Dorchester, Mass.) with 11:55 to play.  The Rams took control, however, by scoring eight straight points and 23 of the game’s next 24 points over an eight minute stretch in taking a 71-45 lead with 3:57 remaining, as Suffolk ended the game on a 29-5 run over the final 12 minutes to account for the final score.

Freshman Enjolee Phillips (Hartford, Conn.) led all scorers with 15 points for Pine Manor, which also received 12 points from junior Nicole Doras (Salisbury, Mass.).  Senior Laura Cecil (Solon, Ohio) grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gators, who shot 40 percent from the field, including a 32 percent effort after intermission.

Suffolk hosts Gordon in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Regan Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor heads to Brookline, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Newbury in a non-league match-up that begins at 5:00 p.m.
