Westfield State trips up Pine Manor

Westfield, MA-Sophomore
forward Andrea Wasuk (Lenox) scored 12 points and grabbed a
game-high 14 rebounds, and junior guard Betty Dely (Waltham) had 13
points, six rebounds and four steals to lead Westfield State to a
59-37 victory over Pine Manor College in non-conference women’s
basketball Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Westfield’s record 3-4 while Pine Manor dropped to 2-7.
Pine Manor led 19-16 lead with 2:42 remaining in the first half. Wasuk
gave Westfield the lead for good, 22-21, on a jumper at the 1:30 mark.
The Owls led 24-21 at halftime and began pulling away in the opening
five minutes of the second half, outscoring Pine Manor 10-3 for a 34-24
advantage.
Wasuk and Dely were the only Owls scoring in double figures. Freshman
guard Peggy Steurwald (Lenox) contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Junior Laura Cecil scored 13 points and eight rebounds for Pine Manor,
which only shot 25 percent from the field and 48 percent from the foul
line. Freshman Crystal Colon contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and
three steals.
The Gators are off until after the New Year when they travel to Florida for the Sunshine Shootout.
