St Joe's swamps Gators

STANDISH,
ME - The Saint Joseph's College Women's
Basketball team made 45% of their field goal attempts en route
to a 70-47 victory over conference opponent Pine Manor College
on Wednesday evening. Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) netted 15
points in the win. With the victory St. Joe's improves to 14-6
overall and 7-2 in GNAC play. The Pine Manor Gators fall to 6-13
overall and 2-7 in conference contests.
SJC used a 25-2 run, highlighted by a tenacious defensive effort
that resulted in eight Gator turnovers, to go up 33-8 with four
minutes remaining in the first half. Daigle and Erin Cartwright
(Acton, MA) combined to score 11 points in the 10 minute swing
that helped St. Joe's post a 28-point lead, 45-17, at halftime.
Despite a better shooting performance and 16 second half points
from Laura Cecil (Solan, OH), Pine Manor was
unable to overcome the daunting St. Joe's lead in the latter
half as the Royal Blue held on to earn a conference victory,
70-47.
Carolyn Freeman scored 12 points, made 4 of 6 trey attempts and
dealt 5 assists in the SJC win. Allison Miner grabbed 9 boards
in the contest and Megan Farrell (Abington, MA)
came off the bench to tally 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Meghan Daigle was efficient from the floor as she connected on 5
of 7 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 free throw shots to account
for her team-high 15 points. The sophomore forward also added 7
rebounds in the contes
For Pine Manor, Laura Cecil scored a game-high
20 points and Nicole Doras (Salisbury, MA)
grabbed 5 steals.
