Pine Manor Announces Inaugural Hall of Fame Inductees

Chestnut Hill, MA- 10/12/2006- Peggie Sweeney, an Honorable Mention All American and Great Northeast Conference Basketball Player of the Year, and Sue Bavineau, another of the school’s greatest basketball players and long time coach, comprise the first inaugural class of the Pine Manor College Athletics Hall of Fame.

          One of the best basketball players to ever wear the green and white for Pine Manor, Peggie Sweeney ‘96 received numerous honors during her playing career. Sweeney’s 2,317 career points ranks her 5th on the NCAA All Time scoring leaders for Division III and makes her the all-time leading scorer for the Gators.  With a scoring average of 25.5 points per game her senior season, Sweeney was named the 1996 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Basketball Player of the Year, and was also named NEWBA First Team All Star and NCAA Honorable Mention All American.

            Sue Bavineau ’91 was not only a record setting basketball player for the Gators but was also a long time contributor to the program as a coach.  Bavineau holds the Pine Manor career record for assists with 479 and scored 1,377 career points, placing her fourth on the school’s all-time list.  Bavineau captained the 1991 team that captured the MAIAW class B/C State Basketball Championship. Bavineau also served as the Assistant Basketball Coach from 1994 to 2003. 

              The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Friday October 27, 2006 at 8:00 PM in the Pine Manor College gymnasium.
