Pine Manor College Athletics Announces Award Winners at 2008 Banquet

            The Pine Manor College Athletics Department honored the 2007-2008 athletic year by recognizing several individuals athletes for their excellent seasons. 

            The scholar athlete award is given annually to the student athlete with the highest grade point average.  Patty Pabon, a senior majoring in Biology,  was recognized as the 2008 Scholar Athlete, Patty has a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named the scholar athlete in 2007 as well. . The team with the highest cumulative GPA was awarded to the 2007-2008 Cross Country team. 

            The Henry K. White Award is Pine Manor’s longest running athletic award and is given annually to a senior who has achieved the most during her athletic career at Pine Manor.  Laura Cecil is the 2008 recipient of this prestigious award.  Laura is a four year member of the Pine Manor Basketball team and is considered one of the best basketball players to wear the green and white.  Cecil was named to the 2008 GNAC All Conference basketball team, and holds many Pine Manor and GNAC Basketball records.  In addition Laura played first singles on the Gators tennis team.  .  

           The Peter G. Ellis award is presented to a first year that best combines the essential elements for being a highly successful student athlete, including outstanding athleticism, spirit, dedication, and academic excellence.  Diann Ramsey was named the 2008 winner of the Peter G. Ellis award.  Ramsey played on the Pine Manor cross country and softball teams.  She is the president of SAAC and in the fall semester received a 4.0 GPA.

    The White Letter is awarded to an upper-class student athlete that best exemplifies the attributes that make Pine Manor College and PMC Athletics special, including: inclusivity, cooperation, care for the common good and relationship based learning.  There were three Gators who were recipients of this year's award.  Veronica Vozzolo is a two sport athlete at Pine Manor, participating on the volleyball and softball teams.  Veronica battled through a serious elbow issue in January to return to the softball field in late March.   Patty Pabon, is a two year starter and captain on the softball team, as well as a member of the cross country team.  Patty maintains an impressive GPA while mentoring the younger Gators through her actions and inspiring words.  Nicole Doras is a three year member of the basketball team and had her best season yet while battling a nagging knee injury.  Nicole is an active member of the Pine Manor community, whose caring nature has touched many on the PMC campus.

            The Gator Pride award is given to the student-athlete that exhibits the most pride in being a Pine Manor Gator, regardless of skill level.  The 2008 Gator Pride award was presented to Stephanie Ludwig.  Ludwig is a sophomore from Henniker, NH, who is a three sport athlete for the Gators  Stephanie recently was named to the GNAC All Conference Lacrosse team.

            Adrienne Hynek and Dr. Alysia Green were awarded with the Henry Baker Appreciation Award .  The Henry Baker award is given to a non-student athlete that best supports Pine Manor athletics.  The Gator Award is the only award given out by the student athletes.  It is given to the person whom the captains feel best supports the Pine Manor College student athletes.  This award was presented to Katie Fowkes.

            The final award given was the Athlete of the Year.  Sophomore Courtney Wallace was named the 2008 Pine Manor Athlete of the Year.  Courtney is the starting catcher on the Pine Manor softball team and a member of the Cross Country team.  For the second year in a row Wallace was named first team All GNAC and second team NFCA Regional All American.
